Don’t Drink and Drive, Be Sure to Have a SOBER-RIDE

SoberRideThe holiday is often celebrated by the consumption of alcohol.  The consumption of alcohol does not mix with driving, it is lethal for the driver and others who may become engaged with an intoxicated driver on the highway.  There are many cities where you can have fun and celebrate with the ‘spirits’ and still be safe.

Many individuals celebrating the holiday can designate a driver or call Washington Regional Alcohol Program’s SoberRide.   SoberRide is available from December 12 through January 1.  You can contact SoberRide at 1-800-200-8294.  SoberRide is a free and safe ride nightly.  Individuals needing a ride must be age 21 or older to take advantage of the service.  This service is offered in the Washington Metropolitan area, the area where I live. However, I would be willing to bet that such a service is offered in many other towns, cities and states throughout the country.  If they are not, it is certainly something that is needed.

No matter how much we say – don’t drive and drink – people still do it underestimating how much they have had to drink and how intoxicated they really are.   It is much better and safer to designate a driver when you have had too much cheer so that the holiday season will be safe for all of us.
