FEDVIP Dental/Vision

Federal Employee Dental and Vision Insurance Program

The Federal Employee Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP) was established under a federal law enacted in 2004 and is administered by the federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM). It makes available dental and vision benefits to federal employees, retirees and their dependents.

Eligible employees and annuitants can choose among four nationwide and three regional dental plans, and from three nationwide vision plans. Nationwide plans also offer international coverage.

Dental and Vision benefits are available to eligible federal and postal employees, retirees, and their eligible family members where the enrollee pays the entire premium. You can purchase dental and vision insurance on a group basis, where competitive premiums are available and there are no limitations on enrollment based on pre-existing conditions.

Premiums are withheld from your salary on a pre-tax basis. Enrollment takes place during the annual Federal Benefits Open Season in November and December. New and newly-eligible employees can enroll within 60 days after they become eligible.

To enroll in FEDVIP you must be eligible for the Federal Employees Health Benefit (FEHB) program and your position must not be excluded by law or regulation. It does not matter if you are actually enrolled in FEHB — eligibility is the key.

Eligible family members include your spouse and unmarried, dependent children under age 22, or over age 22 if they are incapable of self-support. Rules for eligible family members are the same as they are for the FEHB Program.

You must use the BENEFEDS enrollment website, www.BENEFEDS.com to enroll in a FEDVIP plan or to change your enrollment options. If you do not have access to a computer, call 1-877-888-FEDS (1-877-888-3337), TTY number 1-877-889-5680 to enroll or change your enrollment.
